We packed for cold and dreary weather and were greeted warm sunshine, smooth seas and beautiful days - chamber of commerce stuff - mostly shorts and T shirt weather. Our experience on the Pearl was just like the weather - really special.
This was our 3rd cruise on the Pearl, 8th with NCL and 19th overall. We're not rookies as we have visited 6 of the 7 continents and 46 countries, all on cruises.
We flew to Seattle and spent a couple of days with cousins before the cruise. We like Seattle anyway and the showed new and charming sites. We arrived at the cruise terminal at noon and after Suites check-in and meeting our concierge Pearl, were escorted directly to Cagney's for lunch. We've that booking suites NCL far outweighs the modest cost in really great perks - our concierge Pearl, Butler Johnathon, breakfast and lunch in Cagney's, reserved seating in the theater and lot's more.
Since this was out 8th NCL cruise, we met several old friends. Especially meaningful was Captain Myre who we met in January on a cruise around Cape Horn and Vitor De Silva, the restaurant manager who remembered us from our 1st NCL cruise in May, 2006. This is just one of the ways NCL crew makes us feel very special. Every crew member we met face to face greeted us warmly every time. In our opinion NCL has the best people afloat.
The food and service in the the restaurants was always excellent. And we did almost all - Le Bistro (to die for escargot and rack of lamb), La Cucnia, Mambo's, Lotus Garden, Summer Palace main dining room and the Garden Cafe buffet - all really nice.
Since this was our 5th Alaskan cruise, we did the White Pass railroad - always an awe inspiring trip and Eagles, Totems and Lighthouses in Ketchikan - something new to us and really informative. Just strolled in Juneau and it rained in Victoria.
The comedian was really really funny and we'd seen the other shows, so we entertained ourselves.
As suite guests, embarkation was a breeze - off in 15 minutes of our meeting time. We also love Vancouver but didn't get to do all we wanted because of rain while there.
We're hooked on NCL and can't imagine a better experience - evidence is that we have 3 more cruises booked - next being the EPIC - we'll let you know how that goes.
